Welcome Back to Scouting

The wait is over.

Scouts Canada is excited to welcome you back to outdoor Scouting in September. We hope you are as pumped as we are to embark on NEW and SAFE outdoor adventures.

For those who may not have seen our previous communications, Scouts Canada has developed a step-by-step approach to the return to Scouting that is guided by your feedback as well as provincial ministries of education recommendations and follows the same step by step approach school boards are planning for the return to school. Our goal is to ensure we are doing our part to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 among our youth, Scouters, parents, volunteers and others while providing a fun and engaging Scouting experience for our youth.

Under our safety guidelines and following provincial recommendations, starting September 1, 2020, Scouts Canada will be moving to STAGE 2 of our step-by-step return to Scouting. This means, in-person Scouting will be allowed, but outdoors only and with a maximum number youth participation. This measured return to in-person activity mitigates the risk of COVID-19 transmission for our youth and volunteers, with participation being completely voluntary. We believe that members should come back to Scouting when they and their families feel comfortable.

It is for this reason that Scouts Canada is extending membership to all of our current members from September 1 to December 31, 2020 and we are offering a FREE TRIAL for non-members who wish to try Scouting. What does that mean exactly?

  • ALL members from the 2019-2020 Scouting year can participate in Scouting until December 31 without having to pay a registration fee.
  • Should you choose to not participate in fall Scouting, you will retain ALL membership benefits, including the opportunity to guarantee your spot for our 2021 Scouting year before registration opens to the public.
  • Members can invite their friends to try Scouting through our FREE TRIAL. There is no limit to the number of meetings a friend can attend – they can participate for free until December 31, 2020.

Sign-Up to Guarantee Your Spot
for Fall Scouting!

Despite our comprehensive safety measures and the exciting new membership benefits we are announcing below, we realize that some members and volunteers might not be ready to return to Scouting just yet. In order to prepare, we need you to let us know if you plan to participate in Scouting with us in September.

NOTE: This sign-up process is not registration. Scouts Canada anticipates opening registration later this fall, for the 2021 Scouting year that begins in January.

For planning purposes and safety reasons, we ask ALL members (Scouts and Volunteers) - whether you intend to participate in Scouting or not - to indicate your intentions through this sign-up process. We need your answer by August 31st, 2020.

Can we ‘Scout’ you in for the fall season?

  • Yes, I am excited to resume Scouting in September.
  • I am not returning to Scouting in September, but please keep my spot for January.
  • I am not returning to Scouting. You can give my spot to someone else.

Please take a moment to confirm your decision so that we can better prepare a great fall season for youth across Canada.

By indicating your intentions of returning to Scouting this fall, you are helping us support Scouters who will be able to better prepare their Group for great fall adventures and fun, while putting our new safety Standard into play.

What’s New in Scouting

More reasons to join us this fall

Not only will Scouting be safe this fall, but Groups will also benefit from additional in-Section program quality. At Scouts Canada, we are invested in making our programs more robust so that each youth has the opportunity to embrace the full Scouting experience. In direct response to volunteer, parent and youth feedback, we are excited to announce the following new program initiatives:

ScoutsTracker

Active Sections and Groups will receive a free membership for ScoutsTracker to facilitate event planning, badge progression and organizing Group logistics.

Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (The Award)

As a new National Operating Partner of the The Award, Scouts Canada will financially support Scouting youth aged fourteen and over in pursuing the Bronze, Silver or Gold awards. This program partnership offers a unique opportunity for senior youth to further their Scouting journey alongside another renowned international program.

St. John Ambulance

Youth and Scouters can embark on more outdoor adventures with greater confidence and skills to address potential safety incidents.

Scouters and youth will be offered locally delivered first aid training at a significantly discounted rate. Scouts Canada will also be working with St. John Ambulance in 2021 to develop a first of its kind, hybrid Standard First Aid and Wilderness First Aid course.

Additional Scout Promise

Scouts Canada is welcoming a new additional Scout Promise that will be available September 1st. Acting on membership feedback, the Promise meets our Scouting community’s desire for greater flexibility and inclusivity. While there will soon be two Promises, we remain one Scouts Canada.

An Improved Scouting Experience
